THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

The Lone Paddler Movie is the product of a pact made in 2001, at summer camp between Derek Lukosius, a then 11 year old camper and Andrew Martin, his 22 year old counsellor at the camp. Leading up to that summer, Andrew had just finished his second year at the Ryerson Theatre School in their acting stream and Derek was an aspiring fimmaker, coming off of his short film directorial debut. The film, 5 minutes in length and starring his little brother, was the foundation for his future in filmmaking. Sharing their interest in the movie business upon seeing the film, Andrew and Derek made a pact that following both of their film school educations, they would commit to making a movie together.

Fast forward 12 years to the fall of 2013, after graduating from Humber College Film School, it was time to separate hollow deals from action. Derek and Andrew sat down to brainstorm ideas for to turn their pact into a reality.

In examining a number of possible options, Derek kept returning to campfire stories Andrew would tell campers at night, but there was one that had truly connected. With the moral of treat others how you wish to be treated, Derek and Andrew spent the next 8 months developing the campfire story into the feature length screenplay for The Lone Paddler.

While the future is still uncertain, what is known is that this film Derek and Andrew have been waiting much of their lives to make, with the reminder that promises are golden.
